Security Fence Types
Heavy-Gauge Commercial Chain Link
The foundation of most commercial security fence systems. Standard residential chain link uses 11-gauge wire — the minimum adequate for yard containment. Security fencing begins at 9-gauge and moves to 6-gauge for high-security applications. The difference in wire diameter is significant: 9-gauge is roughly 60% heavier than 11-gauge, more resistant to cutting, and substantially more difficult to defeat with ordinary tools. Security chain link is typically installed at 8, 10, or 12 feet with tension wire at the base and top rail reinforcement.
Barbed Wire Toppers
Three-strand and five-strand barbed wire arms extend outward (or inward, or both) at the top of a fence to deter climbing. Standard 3-strand outrigger arms are appropriate for most commercial perimeter applications. Five-strand systems add deterrent value for higher-security applications. Barbed wire is the most common security topper across industrial and commercial facilities throughout the River Valley.
Razor Ribbon (Concertina Wire)
Razor ribbon uses sharp-edged flat steel barbs integrated into a coiled wire that self-expands when deployed. Significantly more difficult to defeat than barbed wire, razor ribbon is appropriate for applications where a more serious intrusion deterrent is warranted — utilities, government facilities, high-value inventory perimeters.
Anti-Climb and Welded Wire Panel Systems
Anti-climb mesh uses small panel apertures (typically 1.97" x 0.79" or similar) that eliminate the foot and hand holds that standard chain link provides. Welded wire panel systems — V-mesh and similar configurations — are rigid, difficult to cut with standard tools, and nearly impossible to climb. These systems are common in correctional, government, and critical infrastructure applications.
Privacy Slats
Privacy slats inserted into chain link fabric provide visual screening of secured operations — inventory, equipment, or security-sensitive activities. Available in aluminum and UV-stabilized HDPE in multiple colors. Privacy slats reduce visual intelligence gathering while maintaining the structural security of the chain link system beneath.
